Tech Talk:
Wrong Button
Who loves a crisis? Not me. It is highly over- rated. Last February we had a crisis. Someone pressed the wrong button on our computer and BANG, we lost a huge amount of data on our server. No problem, we go to the archive and do a restore.
Who loves a crisis? Not me. It is highly over- rated. Last February we had a crisis. Someone pressed the wrong button on our computer and BANG, we lost a huge amount of data on our server. No problem, we go to the archive and do a restore.
Oops, the BANG happened just before the archive was done and the computer archived over the good archive. No problem, we restore from a secondary machine that had the data.
Oops, there was a glitch some months before and there was no current archive. Eventually, we were able to restore most of the data before the big BANG.
So, back to the drawing board. How do we protect our data so that this will never ever, ever happen again? We archive constantly, each day, with separate full backups for each day-- including off site back up. Yes, it cost us some, but it has passed the test on numerous occasions. My question to you is what would happen to your business if your computer was stolen or all the data was lost? Could you survive? What plans are in place to make sure that this never happens? If you want to do a review of your back ups, give Manuel a call and he will be happy to come down and review your system and procedures.
